Life in the Secret Service

In February, Steve Lewis, a retired police officer/civil servant gave a wonderfully funny and informative talk on the Intelligence service. He explained the difference between MI5 and MI6… MI5 ( the Security Service) handles domestic security within the UK, while MI6 (Secret Intelligence Service) focuses on foreign intelligence gathering overseas.

Steve asked the audience if they thought Johnny English or James Bond was nearer the truth of what the intelligence service is really like and made us laugh when regaling the story of when he took his wife to see James Bond at the cinema, chipping in every so often with “that wouldn’t happen,” “ he can’t do that” and “that wouldn’t be allowed.” He is now banned from watching James Bond with his wife!!

He had the members participate in some difficult, think outside the box quizes, which unsuprisingly, they did really well. Oh… and Johnny English is closer to what the Intelligence service is really like !!
